Overview
San Marcos, TX has a rich history that involves a theme park, mermaids, and a swimming pig named Ralphie. In order to maintain its rich history, the city created a project for local artists to paint 10 mermaids statues that will be placed around the historic downtown area of San Marcos.
History Game

Augmented Reality
The use of AR will allow the user to interact with the mermaid statue, lead them to each site, and have Ralphie the swimming pig guide them along the way.
Logo
The logo for Mermaid Tales combines a book, which represents a history book, and a mermaids tail. The lines in the tail portray the pages of a book and the layers of San Marcos’ rich history. Also, the rays coming from the tail give the viewer the feeling of discovering something new.

Mobile App
When opening the Mermaid Tales app, it will allow the user to view the apps tutorial to get familiar with the process of interacting with the statues and Ralph the swimming pig informs you about the apps features.
The apps camera view will have multiple features to interact with the app and the mermaids. A burger menu at the top opens up the statues, user stories, and wallet. It also has a bar that toggles the augmented reality on and off, a camera button to capture the mermaids face and a map button.
Capturing the mermaids face using facial recognition unlocks history relating to the statue. After exploring the information of each mermaid, the user may take a quiz that will accumulate points that can be used towards local San Marcos business’.
